Small businesses are being targeted in the latest scam attack claiming to be from HMRC and needing to ‘verify your financial information’. It arrives on what appears to be HMRC headed paper and uses a similar font. The letter asks for bank statements, PDF accounts as well as VAT returns. It also asks for ID for all directors.
HMRC has a website where you can check all the latest letters that have been sent out here. However, if you are in any doubt at all, please contact McPhersons.
