What’s changing in vehicle tax?

Last year’s Autumn Budget announced the following changes that took effect on 1st April – aimed to reduce pollution.

– Extra fee applied to NEW diesels bought after 1st April 2018

– Drivers with existing diesel cars will not pay more

– After the initial extra fee, there will be a flat rate of £140 extra per annum for petrol or diesel vehicles and £130 per annum extra for alternative fuel vehicles, £0 a year for vehicles with zero CO2 emissions

Older cars (than 1st April 2018 ill continue to be taxed based on the old system of CO2 emissions so it may be worth buying a pre-registered car to avoid extra tax.
